Today sees this site passing another little milestone. There have been one hundred thousand views since moving to the WordPress platform – a very pleasing statistic as far as I’m concerned. It’s an opportunity for me to send out a big thank you to all the visitors, commenters and contributors – it’s you (and you all know who you are) who make the whole thing not only possible but a pleasure too.

I also thought it might be nice to let people see which posts – excepting hits on the home page and index – have drawn the most traffic so I’ve added a graphic below featuring the ten most viewed. It seems clear enough that westerns and western related material are easily the most popular.

  1. Fabulous landmark. 100,000! So well deserved too. Pleased to see 4 of my favorite westerns are in your top ten posts.
Hope you’ll continue with non- western posts too. I know you will.

    • Thanks, Vienna.
I fully intend to keep mixing things up and posting on a variety of movies – indeed, I’d like to widen the scope even further. I do focus on the western a lot because, well, it is my favorite genre. But more than anything, I just love movies.

  2. Congratulations Colin, could not happen to a nicer guy or blog – these are impressive numbers, but if you add your previous blog location, what would the comprehensive numbers then be?

    • Thanks, Sergio. You’re a pal, pal!

What would the combined total be? That’s a bit difficult to say. The last time I looked there the total had comfortably passed 500,000. However, those are very “raw” numbers as the old site didn’t filter out bots, web crawlers and the like as WordPress helpfully does.

        • Well it’s hard to tell for sure given the nature of the stats on the old site. Anyway, the point is all those numbers only exist due to the support of guys like yourself.

            • Well, it’s a mutually beneficial thing. If it weren’t for all the great feedback I’ve been fortunate enough to receive, it just wouldn’t be the same.

  3. Congrats, Colin! Well deserved. Well earned, indeed. Thanks much for all of your effort and work and passion and enthusiasm; and, for sure, your articulate and erudite critical “take” on the western and all it has meant — and continues to mean precisely because of those such as yourself — for a century-plus.

    • Thanks. That’s extraordinarily kind of you, John. Personally, I find it gratifying that a genre which is so often written off as past its sell-by date is still capable of drawing in admirers who enjoy watching, reading about and discussing it.

    • Chris, I hope to continue offering a mix of stuff. I think it’s good to feature some variety – to prevent too much staleness creeping in – but westerns will no doubt continue to dominate here.
Thanks for the comment, as always.

  8. Colin, many congratulations to you on reaching this terrific milestone. Your informed and analytical reviews (and not ramblings) of a variety of films, especially western and noir, have been an inspiration to yours truly on how reviews must be conducted (with baton and all). I wish you all the best for the coming years.

    • Real kind of you, Prashant. I love watching and writing about westerns. I could easily turn this into a dedicated western movie site I guess but I really enjoy varying it a bit so as not to develop a kind of cinematic tunnel vision.

  9. Congratulations,Colin,
It’s always such a pleasure to visit your blog and I am in constant anticipation about
what the next title to receive “The Colin Treatment” will be.
I’m off to London for a few days and hope to visit my favorite Greek restaurant, so I shall be
thinking of you in sunny Athens, and will certainly raise a glass or two to celebrate your
    impressive milestone.

  10. Hi, Colin. I’ve been out of town and so just saw this. Congratulations!

As you know, I feel great affinity with your view of the Western and always tremendously enjoy those pieces especially. You always seem to so clearly see the light at the end of the trail.

Like everyone else, I look forward to so much more here..

    • Thanks! I have to admit I was just a little surprised how westerns totally dominate the ten most viewed – if I’d extended it to twenty, then a few other genres appear, but even then it’s still overwhelmingly skewed towards the western.

    • Thank you! I’ve never been one for chasing hits, and really started this up just to write and chat about cinema. It is gratifying to know people enjoy visiting though – and the stats are nice for seeing the kind of stuff they like to read the most.

  12. I’ve been away from home for a week, Colin, so have not had the opportunity before now to add my congratulations on this impressive landmark!

The two types of film you mainly cover – westerns and film noir – are my two favourite types of movie so I could not be more pleased to be able to read your eloquent reviews. I hope to read very many more…….

    Best wishes,

  13. One hundred thousand reviews! That’s the measure of appreciative criticism and fine writing. This is the blog to come to from good reviews of films noir and westerns. I come back occasionally and re-read your old reviews.

By the way, do you know of a version of Michael Winner’s LAWMAN that ends with Burt Lancaster getting shot in the back? I’ve just heard there is such an ending but I can’t imagine the film ending that way.
