I’ve seen neither of these but will certainly preorder Shangai. Maybe Terror too. It seems to be a great year for catalogue releases (almost a shame as I’d hoped to cut back on buying discs this year). I’ve been eyeing a few other noir too- Pickup on South Street looks interesting.

Yes, there are plenty of interesting titles on the way. Pickup on South Street is marvelous – I wrote the film up here – and the very fine UK Blu-ray can usually be had at a good price in sales and so on. I’d also recommend Night and the City.

I’m very much looking forward to Experiment in Terror. Although the old DVD is OK, this should be a very worthwhile upgrade for a great thriller. I’ve been very impressed with Indicator/Powerhouse based on what they’ve released so far.
I already have the US (blu) release of Lady From Shanghai, so I’ll see what the reviews say before double-dipping on that one. There’s a good chance I’ll be tempted though!

I think the extras on both of these titles make them highly attractive, Dafydd, and pricing without any import hassles is another bonus.

Wonderful to see these confirmed – SHANGHAI will be a double dip but I am really not complaining

No, I imagine the extras will have played a part in your decision – the whole package looks like a good one.

Yes, the US release (or rather, the reissue after some technical problems) looks great, but there are no extras at all, not even a trailer. looks like this one will include content from the previous US DVD as well as new stuff – yay!

And let’s face it, this is a film that certainly justifies extra content.

Damn straight – it would be great if they could do a proper analysis of what the original funhouse sequence would have been like, for starters!

Oh yes! Though, frankly, I’ll take whatever is offered on this one, and I expect to like it too.

PS and i would totally provide an audio commentary for free! But it looks like Peter Bogdanovich got there first 😉

Surely they could stretch to two tracks.
You hear some criticism of Bogdanovich here and there but I really like listening to what he has to say, especially on pet subjects like this.

I always get a bit annoyed at the criticism actually – he really knew the people he talks about and I think what he has to say about Welles is especially pertinent.

Yeah, I’m with you on that. I have no issues whatsoever with the guy and am always pleased to hear what he has to say.

I couldn’t resist and just watched SHANGHAI again – beautifully made, awesome fun!

It’s been a while since I last looked at it but I concur. It’s excellent, a bit of mess in ways but all those ways are good.

It is a bit of a mess, true, but actually holds up quite well even from a plot standpoint – the original novel is also worth reading by the way.

I have that book, somewhere. One of these days I need to try to dig it out and read it.

Really worth a look – it follows the lot of the film (sic) fairly closely until we get to Chinatown …

I believe you, it’s just the prospect of fighting my way through the sea of boxes that still seem to surround me even now, going on for 6 months since the big move, can be a daunting prospect!

Sorry about that chum – been there, done that, hope to never have to go through it again (no chance of that I’m sure, but …)

Glad these movies are being preserved, upgraded …. and appreciated.

I wholeheartedly agree – the preservation, upgrading and appreciation are all interrelated and equally important. Long may it continue.

It’s good to hear from you. I just moved house which will no doubt account for my absence.

I feel your pain, that’s a stressful experience. I moved both house and country back in the autumn and I’m still not sure I’ve recovered fully!

Yes, hassle and upheaval but life’s all about change and movement and you just have to move and change with it.
